Some of you might have noticed that our donation link was taken down.
A note of explanation: since our student group is only associated with the tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization FOTO (we, as a student group, technically aren't a tax-exempt group), we can't put up a "donate" link according to PayPal. There's a lot of tax rules and laws that I'm not going to claim to understand, but the bottom line is that we're working on getting the paperwork approved to make our student group a tax-exempt organization, which would allow people to easily donate tax-deductible amounts on our site. Through this situation I've realized I'm better at biochemistry than tax, so be patient through this process.
In the meantime, here is the link to donate to FOTO through their main site: https://secure.imodules.com/s/769/inner.aspx?sid=769&gid=1&pgid=344&cid=813&
If you are interested in donating specifically to the Holy Family Surgery Center, visit this website: http://holyfamilysurgerycenter.org/ Then, click on the "donate" tab and follow the directions.
Finally, we're still looking for famous artists for our benefit concert!

Rolling Right Along
Just got back from the first ever U of M - St. Thomas FOTO meeting! Among other things, we decided to focus on three main fundraising events for this spring: 1) a benefit concert to be held at the Varsity Theater in Dinkytown, 2) a Charity Denim event and 3) a restaurant night in which we partner with a local restaurant and receive a percent of all their sales during the day. We also discussed the possibility of hosting a medical conference at the University of Minnesota whose focus would be on providing surgical services in developing countries.
The concert will be our main focus this spring, so if you have any connections to famous artists please let us know! E-mail the group at umnfoto@hotmail.com.
Finally, we now have a bank account. This means that soon we can create a PayPal account, which will ultimately enable people to donate online through this site with a few easy clicks.
That's all for now. The posts will start coming with more frequency now that we're putting a lot of ideas into action.
Happy Trails!

The Inaugurual Post
Hello all! This site will be our portal to the outside world, at least for now. Check back soon and expect pictures and better formatting (since I'm technologically incompetent I'm outsourcing the design aspects of this job to my sisters). Additionally, we will hopefully have a link to a Paypal account to facilitate online donations. In the meantime, spread the word- the more traffic to this site the better chance we have of making money from advertisements.
Until next time,
Mike
